## Professional wallpapering for any room
Our wallpapering service covers hanging all styles of wallpaper and wall coverings: lining paper, plain and textured papers, patterned and large-repeat designs, and statement feature walls.

It's for homeowners who want character a painted wall can't give, people who've bought an expensive paper and don't want to risk ruining it, and businesses that want a distinctive finish in a reception, restaurant or office.

It's usually the right choice for feature walls behind a bed or sofa, chimney breasts, hallways and stairwells that need visual interest, and rooms where a pattern ties a scheme together.

Wallpaper is unforgiving. Walls must be smooth and sound, patterns must be matched across every join, the first drop must be truly vertical and corners, sockets and windows need careful cutting. Because we also plaster, poor walls can be put right before a single roll is opened.

## Why wallpaper goes wrong
Most wallpaper problems trace back to the wall underneath or the first drop.

### Visible seams and lifting edges
Wrong adhesive, poor pasting or unsuitable walls lead to seams that open and edges that peel.

### Mismatched patterns
A pattern that doesn't line up across joins or drifts out of level ruins the look of the whole wall.

### Bubbles and bumps
Lumps on the wall, old paint flakes and trapped air show through, especially on plain and metallic papers.

### Wasted paper
Mistakes with large-repeat or premium papers can mean buying extra rolls, sometimes from a different batch that doesn't quite match.

## Wallpaper types and how we hang them
Different papers need different handling. Here's what we work with.

### Lining paper
Used to even out imperfect walls before painting or as a base under heavier papers. It gives a smoother finish than paint alone on older walls.

### Paste-the-wall and paste-the-paper
Many modern non-woven papers are hung by pasting the wall, while traditional papers are pasted and left to soak. Using the wrong method is a common cause of stretching and shrinking.

### Patterned and large-repeat papers
Bold designs need careful planning so the pattern sits centrally on feature walls and chimney breasts and matches across every join.

### Textured and specialist coverings
Heavier vinyls, textured and specialist wall coverings need specific adhesives and careful handling to avoid marking the surface.

### Feature walls vs whole rooms
A single feature wall is a quick way to transform a room. Full rooms need extra planning around windows, doors and where the final pattern join will fall.

### Homes and commercial spaces
At home, wallpaper adds personality. In commercial spaces, durable wall coverings can add character to receptions and hospitality areas while standing up to wear.

## Choosing and hanging wallpaper: what to know

### Picking the right paper for the room
Wallpaper comes in many types. Non-woven papers are easier to hang and remove and are popular for feature walls. Traditional papers need pasting and soaking. Vinyl papers are more durable and wipeable, making them suitable for busier rooms. Textured and specialist coverings add depth but need careful handling.

Consider how the room is used. A hallway or child's room benefits from a tougher, wipeable paper, while a bedroom feature wall can be more delicate.

### How much paper do you need?
The number of rolls depends on the wall height, width and the pattern repeat. Large repeats waste more paper because each drop must line up with the last. Always buy enough rolls from the same batch, as colours can vary slightly between batches.

We can measure up on the free visit and advise how many rolls to order so you don't run short or overspend.

### Why the wall matters more than the paper
Wallpaper shows every bump, crack and ridge underneath it, especially plain, light-coloured and metallic papers. Walls need to be smooth, clean and sound. Old paper must be removed, damaged areas repaired, and the wall sized or lined if needed.

Because we also plaster, poor walls can be put right before papering begins, giving the paper the best possible surface.

### Planning a feature wall
Feature walls work best on the wall your eye is naturally drawn to, such as behind a bed, a sofa or around a chimney breast. Bold patterns should be centred so the design looks balanced. We plan the layout before hanging so the pattern sits correctly.

All wallpapering is quoted individually after a free visit and all completed work is guaranteed.

### What to expect while your wallpapering is underway
Before any wallpapering begins, we agree the scope, the order of work and a realistic timescale with you, so you know which rooms or areas will be affected and when. Floors, furniture and fixtures are protected before work starts, and the work area is kept as tidy as possible throughout, with a clean-up at the end of the job.

Our working hours are 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. If anything unexpected comes up once surfaces are exposed, such as hidden damage behind old paper or paint, we'll explain it to you before going further, so there are no surprises on the final bill.

When the work is finished, we walk through it with you and put right anything you're not happy with. Smaller jobs are paid on completion. Larger jobs are paid according to the deposit and payment schedule agreed at the start. All completed work is guaranteed.

### Why choose A&S Decorators for wallpapering
A&S Decorators was set up by Ashley Power around 16 years ago, backed by more than 25 years in the trade. It started as a two-person team and has grown steadily through long-term client relationships and repeat work across Cheshire and South Manchester. When you book wallpapering with us, you're dealing with an established local business rather than an anonymous contractor.

The key difference is that we handle the preparation trades most decorators have to subcontract: plastering, small joinery and specialist uPVC spraying. That means fewer people in your property, no waiting between trades, and one point of contact from the free visit to the finished job.

Ashley is City & Guilds qualified, we carry £2 million public liability insurance, and all completed work is guaranteed. We can supply all paints and materials and help with colours, or work with materials you supply. For larger jobs, we bring in extra decorators to shorten the timescale and keep disruption to a minimum.
